Bakersfield weather

Heating and air in this valley is its own job

Triple-digit summers, some of the dirtiest air in the country, and foggy winter mornings. Here’s what that does to your system.

Summer33 days a year at 100°F+

That’s Bakersfield’s average. 2024 had 61. Long run times wear out capacitors, contactors and condenser fan motors. Those are the parts that fail most in a Bakersfield July.

Air#1 for year-round particle pollution

Bakersfield ranked most polluted in the U.S. for annual particle pollution in 2026. Filters load up fast here and dirty coils cost you cooling.

WinterFog, frost and cold nights

Winters are short, but tule fog mornings and nights in the 30s are when a weak igniter or flame sensor finally quits. Usually after hours.

Why Palmer

Started by Mark Palmer in 2009. Customers still mention him by name.

Palmer Heating and Air is a family-owned Bakersfield company, not a franchise. Mark had years in the trade before he opened it, and more than 20 now. Read the reviews and you’ll see it: people call Mark back for the next repair, the next install, and the next emergency.

  • Price before work. You approve it before anything gets fixed.
  • Straight answers. If a repair makes more sense than a new system, you’ll hear that from us.
  • Big jobs too. Rooftop units, crane lifts and tile roofs are normal work for this crew.
  • Licensed and accredited. CSLB #932081 (C-20), BBB A+ accredited since 2016.

FAQ

Questions we get a lot

Do you handle emergency heating and AC calls?

Yes. Call (661) 889-0990. Our office hours are Monday through Saturday, 8 AM to 6 PM, and we answer emergency calls after hours so a dead AC in July or a dead heater in December doesn’t have to wait.

How much does a new AC system cost in Bakersfield?

It depends on the size of your home, your ductwork, and the equipment you choose. We come out, measure, look at what you have, and give you a written quote with options before anything is ordered.

Do you work on commercial buildings?

Yes. We repair, replace and maintain HVAC systems for offices, shops, churches and other commercial properties, including rooftop package units that need a crane.

What areas do you serve?

Bakersfield and the communities around it, roughly 20 miles in every direction: Rosedale, Seven Oaks, Oildale, Shafter, Lamont, Arvin and everywhere in between.

Are you licensed?

Yes. Palmer Heating and Air holds California contractor license CSLB #932081 (C-20, warm-air heating, ventilating and air conditioning), and we’re a BBB A+ accredited business.
